10 - Recommendations and strategies

Leader: Institut Barcelona d'Estudis Internacionals (IBEI)

Objectives

In this last work package, GLOBE seeks to take stock of the research done in the previous WPs both in specific fields of global governance and in relation to cross-cutting issues and innovative models in global governance to recommend tailored strategies for how the EU should respond to particular trends and scenarios in global governance such as stagnation, incremental change, transformation and fragmentation. This WP will seek to envisage these scenarios and the EU’s response to them using forward-looking exercises in the medium term (2030) and the long term (2050). To ensure the relevance of the strategies proposed, the tasks of this WP will be realized with ample involvement from stakeholders, including policy-makers from the EU, other IOs, foreign countries, but also civil society. The objectives of this WP are to:

  • Take stock of the previous research and identify possible scenarios for the EU in the medium and long term.
  • Recommend overarching strategies on how the EU should respond as an organization to the cross-cutting challenges of global governance in the scenarios proposed.
  • Recommend targeted strategies on how the EU should respond to the specific challenges affecting the particular fields of global governance studied, taking into account the recommendations made in relation to the overarching strategies above.
  • Produce an outcome document in the form of an ‘EU strategy book’.
