8 - Innovative Governance Models

Leader: Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven)

Objectives

The analysis of the global governance fields in cluster 1, coupled with the identification of the cross-cutting issues, will reveal a number of shortcomings in the current prevalent governance models, in particular intergovernmental organisations, self-regulation and traditional international law. This work package will record the shortcomings of these models and compare them to innovative governance models which have shown promise or results in other areas of global governance to challenge the status quo, provide material for scenario-building exercises and offer examples for future reforms which would be favourable to the EU. The WP’s objectives are to:

  • Identify institutional and other governance shortcomings emerging from Cluster 1 and WP7.
  • Evaluate the potential of multi-stakeholder governance models.
  • Evaluate the potential of informal intergovernmental governance and informal law making.

Evaluate the potential of experimentalist governance and orchestration.
